Pulp Fiction Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Mash Fiction - Movie Review Example The most evident break from customary film noir that Pulp Fiction makes is by being shot in shading. The notorious picture of this style of filmmaking is a recognition shown up at through its very name. Film noir implies dim film and one of its visual trademarks is the representative use shadows and key lighting. Mash Fiction presents another kind and shuts the hole among itself and conventional. A film noir without a femme fatale is not really a film noir by any means. Mia Wallace satisfies the job of femme fatale from the beginning by truly going about as an alarm who calls forward Vincent Vega into her refuge. The great femme fatale is a hazardous flirt inside whose trap a not-frightfully brilliant man falls and Mia is unquestionably enticing enough toward Vince to get him caught nearly to the point of decimation once they return back home. It is actually now that the standard shows of film noir start to self-destruct. Film noir has an establishment of vulnerability and uncertainty that offers path to the darker driving forces of the human psyche. After returning back to Mia's home Vincent goes to the washroom and takes part in an inside discussion over the insight of having intercourse with his manager's significant other. In a standard film noir, any uncertainty normally offers approach to motivation instead of sanity. Vincent settles on the choice to leave with a farewell and it is just through the activity of having questions and that inside monolog that the resulting occasions of the story happen and Mia goes into overdose. Film noir contrasts from ordinary criminal, mobster, and analyst motion pictures through the presentation of shadows on the edges of anticipated conduct; hooligans can show goodness and law authorization officials can get degenerate. The end is conjecture similarly well for both: demolition, most likely in a savage way. Vincent's choice to surrender the fulfillments of surrendering to the fascination with Mia can be perused as a foretelling of what in the end turns into the topical intensity of the film. Mash Fiction's account is a particularly non-direct way shot out of sequential request. Jules appears to be adjusted to turn into a significant character just to vanish completely for an hour and afterward make return in the very same scene with which he was presented. That scene remembers something seldom found for the dim universe of film noir: a reference to the Holy Bible. Jules likes to cite from the Bible before he kills and there is in this custom a connection back to the fury of God against miscreants. The nonattendance of Jules from the center segment of the film is a need that represents the non-direct development. Vincent breaks with film noir custom by dismissing the advances of a femme fatale, which is something that never occurs in an exemplary noir film. Vincent's dismissal means that an increasingly hopeful tone to be found in Pulp Fiction; a tone that repudiates the very base of film noir mechanics. Vincent's dismissal of Mia is then aggravated by the choice of Jules to dismiss his way of life. The center piece of the film of Pulp Fiction takes puts after Jules has gone to his choice to take his baffling getaway from death in the opening of the film as a sign from God that the time has come to leave his life as a recruited professional killer. Whenever organized sequentially the intensity of the scene in the coffee shop would be removed on the grounds that it would turn into

Animal Cells, Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems

The building blocks of all matter, atoms and molecules, form the substrate for the increasingly complex chemicals and structures that make up living organisms. For example, simple molecules like sugars and acids combine to form more complex macromolecules, such as lipids and proteins, which in turn are the building blocks for the membranes and organelles that make up living cells. In order of increasing complexity, here are the basic structural elements that, taken together, make up any given animal: Basic Structural Elements atomssimple moleculesmacromoleculesmembranesorganellescellstissuesorgansorgan systemsanimal The cell, toward the middle of this list, is the basic unit of life. It is within the cell that the chemical reactions necessary for metabolism and reproduction take  place. There are two basic kinds of cells, prokaryotic cells (single-celled structures that do not contain a nucleus) and eukaryotic cells (cells that contain a membranous nucleus and organelles that perform specialized functions). Animals are composed exclusively of eukaryotic cells, though the bacteria that populate their intestinal tracts (and other parts of their bodies) are prokaryotic. Eukaryotic cells have the following basic components: A plasma membrane that forms the outermost boundary layer of the cell, separating the cells internal processes from the external environment.Cytoplasm, which consists of the semifluid substance called cytosol as well as various organelles.A well-demarcated nucleus, which contains the animals chromosomes inside a nuclear membrane. Organ Systems During the development of an animal, eukaryotic cells differentiate so they can perform specific functions. Groups of cells with similar specializations, and which perform a common function, are referred to as tissues. Organs (examples of which include lungs, kidneys, hearts, and spleens) are groups of several tissues that function together.  Organ systems are groups of organs that work together to perform a specific function; examples include skeletal, muscular, nervous, digestive, respiratory, reproductive, endocrine, circulatory, and urinary systems.

Feminist Message in Susan Glaspells Trifles - 891 Words

The Feminist Message in Susan Glaspells Trifles Susan Glaspells Trifles can be regarded as a work of feminist literature. The play depicts the life of a woman who has been suppressed, oppressed, and subjugated by a patronizing, patriarchal husband. Mrs. Wright is eventually driven to kill her hard (1178) husband who has stifled every last twitch of her identity. Trifles dramatizes the hypocrisy and ingrained discrimination of male-dominated society while simultaneously speaking to the dangers for women who succumb to such hierarchies. Because Mrs. Wright follows the role mapped by her husband and is directed by societys patriarchal expectations, her identity is lost somewhere along the way. However, Mrs. Hale and Mrs.†¦show more content†¦Mr. Hale remarks, Well, women are used to worrying over trifles (1174), and Sheriff Peters assumes the insignificance of kitchen things (1174). Hence, women are forced into a domestic, secondary role, like it or not, and are not even respected for that. Mr. Hale, Sheriff Peters, and the county attorney all dismiss the dialogue between Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale as feminine chitchat. Further, the county attorney allows the women to leave the Wrights house unsupervised because he sees Mrs. Peters as merely extension of her husband. Even so, the domestic system the men have set up for their wives and their disregard for them after the rules and boundaries have been laid down prove to be the mens downfall. The evidence that Mrs. Wright killed her husband is woven into Mrs. Hales and Mrs. Peterss conversations about Mrs. Wrights sawing and her pet bird. The knots in her quilt match those in the rope used to strangle Mr. Wright, and the bird, the last symbol of Mrs. Wrights vitality to be taken by her husband, is found dead. Unable to play the role of subservient wife anymore, Mrs. Wright is foreign to herself and therefore lives a lie. As Mrs. Hale proclaims, It looks as if she didnt know what she was about! (1177). Mrs. Hale, however, does ultimately understand what Mrs. Wright is about. Impact Of Gender Discrimination On Sports - 1446 Words

GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN SPORTS Brooke Lynn Paige Smith Oklahoma State University-Stillwater December 5, 2014 For decades discrimination in sports has been a big issue, especially gender discrimination. Women have been down graded and stereotyped as weak in athletics because men are generally the more entertaining to watch because of their physicality and they seem more determined and motivated to achieve in their sport, but what people should realize is women are just as athletic as men and deserve an equal opportunity for life chances. The discrimination got better in 1972 when the law â€Å"Title IX† came about, which stated Nobody in the United States will, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be deprived of the benefits of, or be exposed to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial help. This has produced debates all over the world because some disagree with the equality it is trying to create. Women have had a hard time getting into college athletics in the past let alone professional sports, so when Title IX came up women in particular were very appreciative. Nina Compton discusses the law and how it changed in college sports and stated, â€Å"College campuses all over the world have seen athletic departments add women s sport programs and cut men s programs in order to remain compliant under the Act† (Compton 11). Data Processing Management Systems

Question: Discuss about the Data Processing for Management Systems. Answer: Introduction An information system is any organized system that leads to collection as well as communication of information. With the help of information system, a group of components interacts to generate information. The probable effectiveness of diverse kinds of Information System for environmental management is well known. Advances in information provision had led firms to endeavor to enhance information system. There are three wide-ranging types of IS that are enhanced and in wide-ranging use are monetary systems, operational systems as well as strategic systems (Xu et al. 2014). At present companies are gradually viewed as knowledge-based ventures in which practical knowledge management is imperative for competitiveness. IS plays an important role in the operation of trades as well as economic and non-economic aspect such as decision making as a big role of administration. Amazon has designed an e-business approach such that various technical innovations offer thousands of goods at lower price (Dombrowski et al. 2015). Critically discuss at least one successful and one unsuccessful examples Gaining competitive advantage is vital for an organization. Competitive advantage is described as a good or a service that is valued by customers of an organization. Competitive advantages are characteristically provisional, as competitors often look for ways to replica the competitive advantage. There are several roles that are played by Information Systems in terms of competitive strategy. Most of the organization makes the use of information systems to essentially shift the cost of doing trade (Jones and bio 2016). One of the most successful examples of information systems is the innovation management of Amazon. Amazon has a customer-centric mind set and as a result, they are able to provide their customers with what they want. The company mostly makes the use of two major systems that have been developed for its e-business policy in order to administer enormous number of commodities. Amazon Web Services has allowed the partner retailers, the single sellers as well as the developers to promote their goods through Amazon.com web site by building their web based application in a low cost method and collecting their data. Simultaneously, Amazon.com has broadened its data and vigorous infrastructure reasonably and without difficulty by releasing several incorporated web services. In turn, these services have offered Amazon.com to supervise all activities to analyze and make correct decision for its international e-business. With the help of information system, Amazon.com has been able to build a system that is known as SAS (Smart Analytic Search) in order to allow noticing as well as lessening the examples of deception in Amazon web site by investigating the behavioral pattern of fraudsters. The personalization of customers is also measured with the help of SAS that also investigates the fact that how well Amazon.com serves its customers. With the help of IS, the purchasers are able to use the web site from anywhere at any time to purchase a consistent good by less price. The purchasers are more expediency to get more dependable information about goods provided by Amazon. Amazon web service has become a worldwide platform for individuals to retailers in order to sell their commodities (Chen, Chiang and Storey 2012). The successful role of information system at e-commerce sector of Amazon.com in B2C and B2B is mostly based on how the company manages with the quick changes of competitive worldwide market by manufacturing compatible good segments for its customers. The endurance and the improvement lay under how the company efficiently comprehends its strategic planning with the administration information system to raise its proceeds and usefulness. It also includes the transaction processing system that is mostly based on the creation of expediency for users. Customers mostly have a private account to directly log into their Amazon.com profile. The customers also have their own modified characteristics that involve Shopping basket, wish list as well as Shopping Cart. The customers are also with shortcuts with just one click in order to use dispatch address that are already in the system. The information system also includes recommender system to provide the pertinent as well as helpful information to the clients. The company also has an enormous number of links that have been maintained among items and customers (Smart Insights 2016). Between the year 2001 and 2003, Amazon invested more than about $300,000 in order to build new distribution centers as well as acquire information systems software. There are hardly any criticisms against the company asserting that it would never recuperate the investment. With the help of information systems, Amazon is likely to become profitable in the long run and earn additional proceeds. Amazons makes the use of information systems in order to enhance profitability faster. According to a recent report, net sales of Amazon doubled and present proceeds also increased by 40 percent. Oracle information system that is used by the company is built as a multi-terabyte database for the company. On the other hand, the SCM software that is used by the company mostly controls costs and improves efficiency related to shipping and logistics. The CRM information system that is incorporated proposes to work up e-marketing hard work with the help of analysis of preferences of the customers and provision of commodities for precise segments. With the help of order processing system, Amazon is able to record information of credit card and is linked to a delivery system. The CRM system of Amazon generates business value by integrating customer sales as well as services. One of the most unsuccessful examples of information systems is the failure of the Hilton Hotels information systems. The hotel attempted to apply a system that allowed customers to confirm reservation for hotel bookings as well as car rentals online. They utilized the information system with the purpose to make booking system easier for both the customers and the company. However, the utilization of IS did not bring any productive result. In spite a huge investment of 125million dollars, the project disintegrated when it became apparent that the company would miss its deadline by 2 years. The major disadvantage that is associated with Hilton Hotel is the transaction processing system. This system will not be able to handle if the trade is not large enough to make use of a transaction processing system at the hotel. It has also faced problem in terms of security and hardware problem as it was successful to handle enormous quantities of customer and business data (Stair and Reynolds 2 013). Critically discuss the success factors One of the major success factors is that Amazon makes the use of oracle as the enterprise resource management. With the help of this, Amazon is able to hold data related to its customers. It also makes the use of customer relationship management in order to gain customer satisfaction. The management information system is mostly used for collecting its Customer relationship management by Amazon.com. The innovation strategy of the company is also considered as one of the major that have led to the success of the company. The major strength of Amazon.com came from organizing its information systems such as data, transaction and logistic procedure in a precious manner. The major factor that led to the success of information system is Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). It allows information system of Amazon.com the prospects to be ultra scalable, high routine and availability of sustainable growth. The system had mainly focused on the performance of end-data to keep more items, more cus tomers and more orders to strengthen the online sites. The pleasant appearance of this system is that it has been built to reuse the information in multi-contexts (Ward and Peppard 2016). Amazon.com productively makes the use of the major individuality of managing information systems, such as management directed, common data flow, management oriented and easiness of use. It is mostly considered as administration oriented as it is designed for using from top to down. It is considered as management directed as the enhancements are vigorously directed and encouraged by investments. As the system covers all functional areas of business, the information system includes ordinary data flows (Anderson et al. 2013). It can also be said that the achievement factors of the information system of Amazon.com comes from the following causes: All the information is practiced and checked as it takes place All the accessed data is protected through approval method All back up data is taken to uphold dishonesty and loss of data The system is developed through a consistency of designing and expansion The information system is confirmed through the consistency to trade goals and procedures (Jannach et al. 2016). Discuss various factors influencing the success and the failure The manufacturing and service industry in Australia is compared by providing industry specific inside into the IS success and failures. The required data was gathered through questionnaire survey that was conducted among top five hundred businesses in Australia. The effect of environmental hesitation and strategic application of IS on the performance of firms. The correlation among professed environmental hesitation and the level of strategic applications and the facilitators of IS strategic arrangement is empirically scrutinized (Shapiro and Varian 2013). The factors affecting success of organizational attempts at gaining and enhancing competitive advantages via IS/IT are as follows: The information technology is incorporated into the decision-making purposes. It sets clear principles that the IS focuses on the key issues of the businesses. A suitable information processing technology is requisite to meet the data dispensation and analysis requirements of the users of the IS/IT is selected. The information system is oriented, distinct and intended in terms of the requirements of the individuals and its operational feasibility is ensured The IS/IT is kept under continuous observation; so that it is open system design is customized according to the changing information requirements. IS focuses on the consequences and objectives as well as highlights the factors for non-achievement. The information system recognizes that the diverse information needs for diverse objectives must be met with. The globalization of information in separation from the dissimilar objectives directs to too much information and information and its non-use. The IS concentrates on enhancing the information support to manager decisive success factors. It concentrates on the mission decisive application serving the requirements of the top management (David and David 2016). The factors affecting failure of organizational attempts at gaining and enhancing competitive advantages via IS/IT are as follows: The information system is envisaged as a data processing and not as an information processing system. The IS does not provide the data that is required by the managers but it have a tendency to provide the information usually the function call for. The complexity in the business systems is underestimated and not recognizing it in the IS design leads to issues in the victorious implementation. Deficient of training and approval that the customers of the information and the producers of the data are dissimilar, and they have to play an imperative accountable role in the IS. Sufficient attention is not given to the quality power characteristics of the inputs, the processes and the outputs leading to inadequate checks and controls in the information system. The information system is not able to provide perfect data to all the customers in the organization (Tang and Zhang 2013). Critically discuss the sustainability of competitive advantages There are mostly three IT assets, such as people, shared risk and responsibility as well as technology, which help to develop sustainable competitiveness. Sustainability of competitive advantages is accomplished by making the use of inward systems that are not observable to competitors and using modified approach. Strategic information system mostly supports competitive business strategy of an organization in order to improve relationships with customers and suppliers as well as improve productivity. Competitive advantage that is sustainable is mostly important for an organization. There are mainly four generic strategies that is used to achieve sustainability of competitive advantages via IS/IT (Harvard Business Review 2016). Low-Cost Leadership: Information System is used to accomplish the lowest operational costs and lowest prices. In other words, a supply chain management system can integrate a well-organized customer response system to directly associate customer behavior to distribution and production, serving lower inventory and distribution costs. An organization can make the use of information systems that will essentially shift the cost of doing trade as well as diminish the costs of business procedure (Chiu et al. 2016). Product Differentiation: Information System is used to enable new goods and services as well as change greatly the expediency of the customers in using existing goods and services. An organization makes use of information systems to enhance differential characteristics to reduce differentiation strategies of its competitors (Shapiro and Varian 2013). Focus on market position: A precise market focus is enabled with the help of information systems to constrict linkages with suppliers and develop familiarity with customers. Hilton Hotels mostly uses information system related to customers with detailed data about active guests to provide tailored services and reward profitable customers with extra privileges and attention (Pearlson, Saunders and Galletta 2016). Strengthen customer and supplier familiarity: IS/IT is used to facilitate direct access from suppliers to production schedules. This in turn provides more lead-time to suppliers in manufacturing products. Switching costs is increased due to strong linkages between suppliers and customers. Internet technology is based on global standards that will make it easy for competitors to compete on price alone and for new competitors to enter the market. The value chain model emphasizes specific activities in the business where competitive approaches can best be applied (Sashi 2012). Conclusion It can be concluded that Amazon.com has broadened its data and vigorous infrastructure reasonably and easily by releasing several integrated web services. It can be concluded that information system had emerged as an agent of incorporation and the enabler of new competitiveness for enterprises in the international marketplace. Amazon.com has become the leading B2C online company that has been threatened by the brick companies. Each customer who purchases through amazon.com has his or her profile in Amazon website. It always encourages its customers in order to add favorite items to the wish list. This in turn helps Amazon to know their customers better. The company has successfully incorporated CRM system as well as innovated a number of approaches in order to gain and satisfy individuals with the help of the implementation of electronic customer relationship management. The Relationship between Sports and Media Essays - Sports Journalism

RUNNING HEAD: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPORTS AND MEDIA: CAN SPORTS SURVIVE WITHOUT MEDIA? By Claudette Jackson Palmer Abstract Since the beginning of time media has been responsible for getting the news and information out to the public. Media exists in many different forms such as magazines, television, newspapers, internet, motion pictures, and even plays. When communication is spread not just between two individuals but rather between tens of millions of people it is known as mass media. Mass media is known as the central nervous system of society and it functions as a medium of exchange of information across the globe. Media has many different purposes, such as providing information, entertaining, persuading and also by carrying a vague general function of culture to millions of people (Zimmerbucher, 2008). In order for media to exist, there must be an audience. Today's society is very selective; each receiver reacts differently through his or her own experience and orientation. Sports is used not only to make a living, but also to entertain the masses. When sports and media are combined, the opportunity to make millions of dollars increases. Today, millions if not billions of dollars are being made from athletic events from high school to college all the way to professional sports. The focus of this paper is to discuss the relationship of sports and media: Can sports survive without media? Introduction Media and sports has evoked such interest because of the powerful influence they both have on the ideals and perceptions of the American public (Cunningham, 2003). The relationship between the media and sport is long-standing. The media generates interest and excitement and, without it, sports would not be able to attract so much advertising and sponsorship. In return, sports supply the media with drama, conflict and entertainment. Whilst there is nothing new about this, the amount of media coverage dedicated to sports has increased significantly. In recent years, the arrival of satellite television and a new generation of sports-oriented magazines, and the style of coverage has changed beyond recognition (Phillips, 1998). When media and sports are connected, Bruce and Saunders (2005) defines this as any sport that is not watched live and in person but instead is consumed via mainstream media sources such as newspapers, television, radio, internet, magazines, fanzines, video games, advertising or movies (Bruce & Saunders, 2005). There are some people that question why a relationship between media and sports even exist. An example of this relationship is when sports properties sold their rights to the media, who then sold the sports content to advertisers, who gained audiences and potential customers for their products. The model was primarily built on network television and was largely responsible for turning professional and college sports into multibillion-dollar businesses (Rein, Kotler & Sheilds , 2007). If you honestly think about it every time you are flipping through the channels on television you are bound to see either a sporting event on or advertisement for an upcoming game or merchandise. Sports celebrities are widely used in product advertising to drive sales, by improving consumers' product recall and positively influencing their brand choice behavior. Such endorsements enhance consumer recognition and image awareness of brands the athletes represents (Brody, Runyan & Lear, 2010). With the amount of advertising that goes on within the world of sports it?s clear to see how they attract the public. Advertisements and endorsements are not only a part of the sports world but they are another means of a star athlete to make more money for themselves. Product endorsements often provide professional athletes more money than they earn through playing sports. In 2005, the world's top-ranked golfer Tiger Woods earned nearly $12 million in golf prize money and another $75 million thro ugh endorsements and appearance fees. Basketball great Michael Jordan blazed the trail for these and other star athletes when in 1997 he earned $40 million in endorsements alone (Brody, Runyan & Lear, 2010). Through sports the media has given athletes the power to make millions of dollars for not only themselves but companies, owners, and corporations. Celebrity endorsements are considered valuable and mutually beneficial partnerships for brand owners and celebrities, and involve more than just the transfer of money in exchange for image. However, there has been

Manage your boss’s emails and phone calls like a pro

Manage your boss’s emails and phone calls like a pro As an assistant, you will often be asked to manage your boss’s correspondence, including emails. This can often be a tricky task, particularly because its hard to know the correct tone to strike. Should you write in your voice? In his or hers? What if your boss just leaves it up to you?Representing someone else is a huge responsibility, but one you can weather with dignity and poise. Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you don’t lose the privilege or fumble the ball.Keep it confidential. It should go without saying that whatever you read in your boss’s email isn’t meant to be repeated- to anyone. Don’t discuss personal items you might come across with anyone, least of all your boss (unless he brings something up). And don’t blab about professional developments within your company to your colleagues either- not even to warn them of impending changes. When in doubt, ask.Don’t just accept the email task as yours, silently and resolutely. Ask questions. What is it she wants you to accomplish? Are you authorized to unsubscribe her from unnecessary mailing lists? Are you monitoring so she doesn’t have to weed through everything, or are you actually in charge of triaging, organizing, and (eep) responding. And, if so, how would she like you to do that- as yourself (Sincerely, Your Name, Personal Assistant to Her Name) or as your boss? The more you know going in and the more you two are on the same page, the fewer misunderstandings will crop up.Read them, and take notes.Even if some of this stuff might be over your head, the more you know, the more you can help. Make sure to read carefully and have a sense at any given time of who’s asking for what and which things need to happen first. Make sure to note impending deadlines, appointments, timely actions, etc., and flag them immediately. Make note of these in your own calendar, as well as in your boss’s. That way you can send reminders.Sta y professional. When discussing the content of these emails with your boss or when responding to them yourself, make sure to act the part. Be every bit as professional and polished as your boss is. Remember, you are acting on his behalf.Come up with a system. If you’re given the leeway, try to come up with a system that will work for both of you. For example, you can file everything non-essential into folders like Junk, Personal, and News. Then everything else is work stuff and you can both focus on that. Come up with a flagging system- using different colors or labels- so you can communicate to each other what needs to be done first. Keep it sensible and simple.Check twice.Make sure to bookend your workday by checking emails first thing and then going through for anything urgent at the end of the day. Making sure you do a thorough check in the morning and the evening means that whatever system you came up with for organizing will keep functioning smoothly, rather than falling apart overnight.Stay cool.Don’t bother your boss with a question every time you aren’t sure what to do with a given email- even at the beginning. Try instead to keep a running list of questions you want to ask and save them for the end of the day. In a few days, you’ll find you have far fewer questions.Don’t forget to do your own work.Don’t let your boss’s emails swallow your whole work day, eclipse your projects, or make you neglect your own inbox. Develop a system that works for you so that you can balance both of your correspondences. This will make the arrangement more stable and sustainable for both of you.

Book Review of Aleph by Paulo Coelho

Book Review of 'Aleph' by Paulo Coelho Paulo Coelhos (The Alchemist, The Winner Stands Alone) novel takes readers on an adventurous journey that spans all 9,288 kilometers of the Trans-Siberian railroad from Moscow to Vladivostok, and a parallel mystical journey that transports its narrator through space and time. In his most personal novel to date, Coelho presents himself as a pilgrim seeking to regain his spiritual fire, much like Santiago, the beloved main character of his runaway bestseller The Alchemist. Paulo Coelhos books have sold more than 130 million copies and have been translated into 72 languages. Besides The Alchemist, his international bestsellers include Eleven Minutes, The Pilgrimage, and many other books whose characters grapple with seemingly simple spiritual themes: light and darkness, good and evil, temptation and redemption. But never before has Coelho chosen to place himself as a character so profoundly in the midst of that struggle - until now. In Aleph  (Knopf, September 2011), Coelho writes in the first person, as a character and a man wrestling with his own spiritual stagnation. Hes 59 years old, a successful but discontented writer, a man who has traveled all over the world and become widely acclaimed for his work. However, he cant shake the sense that hes lost and deeply dissatisfied. Through the leadership of his mentor J., Coelho comes to the conclusion that he must change everything and move forward, but he doesnt quite know what that means until he reads an article about Chinese bamboo. Coelho becomes inspired by the thought of how bamboo exists only as a tiny green shoot for five years while its root system grows underground, invisible to the naked eye. Then, after five years of apparent inactivity, it shoots up and grows to a height of twenty-five meters. Taking what sounds like the advice hes written in his previous books, Coelho begins to trust and follow the signs and live [his] Personal Legend, an act that takes him from a simple book signing in London to a whirlwind tour of six countries in five weeks. Filled with the euphoria of once again being in motion, he commits to a journey through Russia to meet with his readers and to realize his lifelong dream of traveling the entire length of the Trans-Siberian railroad. He arrives in Moscow to begin the journey and meets more than what hes expecting in a young woman and violin virtuoso named Hilal, who shows up at his hotel and announces that shes there to accompany him for the duration of the trip. When Hilal wont take no for an answer, Coelho lets her tag along, and together the two embark on a journey of much greater significance. By sharing deeply profound moments lost in the Aleph, Coelho begins to realize that Hilal can unlock the secrets of a parallel spiritual universe in which he had betrayed her five hundred years earlier. In the language of technical mathematics, Aleph means the number that contains all numbers, but in this story, it represents a mystical voyage wherein two people experience a spiritual unleashing that has a profound impact on their present lives. Sometimes throughout the story, Coelhos tendency to describe spiritual concepts in simple terms borders on clichà ©. A life without cause is a life without effect, he repeats, along with other pithy sayings such as Life is the train, not the station. These sayings take on greater depth, however, as this storys narrator travels back in time and returns to the present with experiences that give them new meaning. The tension in Aleph builds as the train nears its destination at Vladivostok, the final stop on the Trans-Siberian railroad. The narrator Coelho and Hilal have become entangled in a spiritual web that must be broken if they are to continue on in their separate lives. Through their delicate negotiations, readers will come to understand the interconnectedness of people throughout time and find inspiration in this story of love and forgiveness. Like many of Coelhos other novels, the story in Aleph is one that will appeal to those who view life as a journey. Just as Santiago of The Alchemist sought the fulfillment of his Personal Legend, here we see Coelho writing himself into the fabric of a novel that traces his own spiritual growth and renewal. In this way, its the story of Coelho, the story of his characters, and the story of each of us who read it. Disclosure: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Strategy of international business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Strategy of international business - Essay Example Centralization happens when a company focuses the centralization of authority from the whole towards a particular group, which usually happens to be the top management since top management assumes the decision making authority. On the other hand, decision-making authority in a decentralized organization is passed over to the lower tiers that may be the organization’s branches, subsidiaries, or divisions. Advantages of centralization include uniformity of standards, reduction in the cost of operation, and increased profitability of business while disadvantages of centralization include conflict between the internal organizational culture and external culture, and the need of a very efficient IT-based system. Advantages of decentralization include increased competition whereas the disadvantages of decentralization include increased need of training and customization of employees’ skills. One advantage of centralization is uniformity of standards. Since the company has a centralized system, the product or service generated by the company has the same quality wherever it is made in the world. Another advantage of a centralized organizational structure of an international company is that it reduces the cost of operation in three fundamental ways. Firstly, the company is able to exploit the economies of scale. The international company can benefit from its products’ or services’ special pricing in numerous ways that include but are not limited to bulk pricing, single orders or multiple orders, and volume discounts. Secondly, in a centralized system, an international company escapes the need to duplicate the procedures or efforts to address the needs of branches in different parts of the world. Thirdly, centralization of the system reduces the regulatory costs. In addition to that, centralization promotes a culture of more consistency and accountability

Collaboration and Consultation in Education Research Paper

Collaboration and Consultation in Education - Research Paper Example According to the research findings, it can, therefore, be said that collaborative learning is accomplished through the use of active engagement activities designed to exploit knowledge and to facilitate the sharing of the workload. In this method, learners can generate their individual parts of a larger assignment and then the parts are compiled as a group work. Collaboration is also a style employed by professionals in order to achieve a common and a shared goal. There are several terminologies that may be used interchangeably when discussing cooperation strategies. These terms include consultation, teamwork, collaborative work and collaborative consultation. However, the collaboration will be employed in this paper as the umbrella concept for the various collaborative strategies. Furthermore, there are different forms in which collaboration techniques are created. These are the student collaboration, teacher-student collaboration, teacher-parent collaboration, and student-parent co llaboration. All these forms of cooperation are primarily meant to help enhance the learning process of a student and to ensure they achieve the best in education. Collaboration is both advantageous in teaching and learning when it happens on various levels. Collective prioritizing of education by the students, teachers, members of a family, and the community as a whole is beneficial to teaching and learning process. The benefits will be more felt when all the stakeholders engage in activities that promote learning institutions, educators, and students. Additionally, the advantage of collaboration becomes more evident when teachers collaborate with other teachers to support innovative classroom practices. And aim at the high level of expectations for themselves and students as well. Further, the benefits of collaboration can be achieved more when students are granted the chance to work together for common academic goals in manners that improve learning.

Things Fall Apart :: essays research papers

Things Fall Apart Essay   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe definitely has a fitting title. It explains how two cultures with different ideas and beliefs can clash and be intolerant towards one another. Most of the theme is developed through the plot of the story and through a man and his struggle against fear and anger (the main character, Okonkwo). Throughout the book he tries to resolve the problems that develop all around him and within himself. As the story progresses, conflict overwhelms him and leads to his downfall and the downfall of the Ibo culture.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One part of the book that shows how the title is developed is when Okonkwo's character is introduced and explained to the reader. The author tells how he is shameful of his father and that he is belligerent and cold-hearted. Pointing out these flaws in Okonkwo's character seems to foreshadow his downfall. Since Okonkwo probably represents the 'intolerant culture';, that culture's downfall is also foreshadowed. Later more obvious instances occur. Okonkwo kills Ikemefuna, who is like a son to him. His decision of killing the boy is definitely unreasonable, and he only acts on what he was told was right. Just like the rest of the clan he follows these customs that seem immoral and unjust to other cultures. In another part of the story, Okonkwo is banished from his fatherland. This incident is the first where he is punished greatly for his actions. It marks a turning point in Okonkwo's downfall, and therefore the downfall of the traditional culture that he stands for. His hopes and aspirations are almost forgotten while he is away from Umuofia, and he desperately tries to regain his status when he returns. During this period of time, Okonkwo also discovers that his son has converted to his enemy's ways and beliefs. He abandons his son, and doesn't want to be his father any longer. This shows that his relationships with family and other people are beginning to 'fall apart';. The most obvious development of the theme and title takes place at the end of the book, when the final clash of cultures occurs.
